    A new tool for the modding community quietly appeared on Steam yesterday.

    Cities XXL - Map Editor on Steam

    From the description:

    This tool is an improvement over the previous one for XL, as map makers can can selectively plant trees, set the water level and color, generate textures, add particle effects like smoke or water vapor, and more, all without having to use existing in-game maps as a base.

    In other words, we shouldn't have to concern ourselves with deleting trees in the water any more whenever we load up a new custom map made using this tool. ;)

    The drawback - it appears that maps made using this tool will not be compatible with older versions of the game; at least, one map I tested crashed my XL 2012 game. Perhaps the map experts can make some magic happen?

    In any case, having seen some pictures of maps made already using the tool and some new features it enables, I'm greatly looking forward to seeing what the community will do with this.

    i just made a map but i can't save it as a lvl file. And how to get a patch file of this map?

    In STEAM
    1) Add to your cart.
    2) Download and install from Steam.
    3) Run the application from your desktop by clicking on the "Map Editor - Cities XXL"

    I can't understand that how to generate patch file on User Guide...

    did you try the install found in Steam/Library/Tools?

    Yes but it is not there ...

    I often have bugs with Steam, sometimes it works and sometimes not ..

    Why I asked if someone could put this map editor on XLN. ;)

    Don't think that will be possible as its a installed program. My Map Editor folder is 2.18GB.

    I have try Library/Tool/ but can not see cities xxl map editor, am I missed anything?

    Doubt it would work as it needs to be installed. Its not like the old map maker which runs like a portable program

    Mmkay, kinda interested in making some maps, anyone know of a heightmap editor that can do 4096x4096 and preferably free?
