Countries XL is a project developed for the XL Nation community. The main objectives are: - To recreate a coherent world - To allow players to experience a multiplayer gameplay with Cities XL - To create unique cities where famous landmarks may be built only once in the whole world (cf gameplay rules) - To have fun The way we want to achieve our goals relies on forum interactions between players. As a team, they will decide a strategy in order to develop their country & their respective cities, to specialize them or not... 1. The spirit around the project Spoiler COUNTRIES XL is thought to be a casual gameplay. It’s not a race to build the biggest/ greatest city in the shortest time. You are always free to continue to work on your standalone cities that remain out of the COUNTRIES XL world. At this point, any city you may have already built cannot be placed on the COUNTRIES XL world map. COUNTRIES XL has been thought to match any kind of Cities XL gameplay, and allow any XL Nation member to participate to the project, non-regarding the problems related to the poor Cities XL CPU performance & limitations you may “enjoy” on your PC. We want to have huge megapolis cities as well as small villages & rural areas, major high-technology poles or big industrial facilities, conurbation of average cities… anything you want to be for your country. Some examples of what will be possible: - With your fellow teammate you want to create a bundle “City Center” & suburbs? Why not, this is possible in COUNTRIES XL. - You want to develop a huge international airport for the capital city of your country, but on a different map? No problem, with time we will propose such features. - How about creating a world class touristic resort for your country? Yep, that is possible, but only after your country reached a certain level of development and has enough “resources” to dedicate to create a Cancun style “paradise”! You see where we want to go? Yes, no? Don’t worry, we got a pretty solid base of rules you will be able to refer to when planning your interactions with your team. COUNTRIES XL is not a competition between players, but cooperation. We will make sure that every player will be rewarded at some point. There are enough stuff/ mods in our community, to allow each of you to have from one to several unique landmarks in your city J! COUNTRIES XL will be open to players that would like to join the project after its launch and initial split of countries. Just contact the moderation team to be advised on next steps. THERE WILL BE GAMEPLAY RESTRICTIONS. As said earlier, through this project, we are interested in recreating an organic development of cities/ countries. Always keep in mind that when you are about to create a major project for your city, you have: - To discuss the idea with your teammates or be advised by the moderation team - To always keep in mind the implications for your city in comparison to your amount of population, your specialization objectives & the overall layout of this feature. Does it look like a realistic project to you? o E.g.: A modular airport with several runways would be possible only after your city reach a certain level of population and this feature should be built in several rounds. o The planning of a motorway system in one city will require huge resources from the whole country, and will be possible only in later rounds/stages when your country will look enough developed to support such cost. 2. We have still an agreement to manage COUNTRIES XL but we are of course open to new members, if you want to help manage this project, you are welcome, just PM us. Being part of the moderation team, doesn’t exclude you to be part of the COUNTRIES XL world. Some of us intend to be players as well, and we’ll be enough transparent in our decisions to prove we are not benefiting from the situation. Publishing COUNTRIES XL gameplay rules Spoiler The different rules are written down, and you will be able to consult them very soon. We will release them in different threads in order to facilitate exchange with you on any aspect of gameplay. These rules can be debated between all members, we are of course open to amendments, but on most points you will see that we have pretty much covered all basic mechanics of COUNTRIES XL in forum & in game. The rules will be divided in the following parts: - Storyline & Timeline (stages & rounds) - Country Governance - General Development Plan (GDP) & city specialization - The events: contests between players - Voting system & Non Governmental Institutions - Country & city rankings - Unique Landmarks & Restricted buildings / infrastructures in game - Conflicts of interests between players (regulating tensions between players of a same country) Recruitment of players & creation of the countries Spoiler We will open a recruitment thread very soon, where each player will answer to a small survey in order to understand what are his goals, his wishes & projects. This will help you figure out with whom you may be interested to collaborate. After countries are created, based on your map wishes, we will assign you a map in game. We will then release a map of the “Alpha Centauri” world where you will see what are the limits of your country, and where are localized your settlements. We will be able to provide you as well with more focused maps on your country for your own needs.
