Continents & Oceans/seas Naming

    Hey fellow citizen of Alpha Centauri.

    We have a name for the planet... but still nothing for the continents... how about brainstorming a little bit all together

    You all remember that we have a map, it s still in process... and hopefully with the holiday period we will be able to present it to you, with more features as relief...

    So what do we need to brainstorm:

    1 The name of the 3 continents:
    Left
    Central
    Right

    possible also to name unpopulated yet islands groups 1 & 16 & 17

    2 Oceans
    2.1 Between Left & Center
    2.2 Between Center & Right
    2.3 Between Right & Left
    Oceans/seas around the pole can have also dedicated names if it s more easy

    3 Seas
    3.1 Between countries 2-5-7
    3.2 Between countries 4-5-6
    3.3 Starting between 1 & 9 till big island of 10
    3.4 Between 9-11-10
    3.5 Between 11-13-15-16
    3.6 Between 14-15
    3.7 Around 17

    What do i recommend for naming continents.... probably take inspiration from

    mythological names of gods & creatures from any culture... we can of course mix names from nordic, celtic, greek/latin, asian, arabic... The only thing is probably to not choose too famous names... in order to make alpha centauri our own world.


    If you have other ideas, please share them! You are not obliged to be a CoXL player to contribute (but we are strongly recommending you to join us, as we are having a lot of fun).

    First of all, I need another region for Titania within region 5.
    The Capital of The Federation of Western States was too important
    not to have an own region/district :D

    Then some suggestions: States of the Federation (all named after Greek Titans, Titanesses, and Muses):
    State #2 Astraia/Astraya, the last land before the Sun says "Good Night" and the day ends, hence named after Astraeus, Titan of Dusk.
    State #3 Eratia
    State #4 Theia
    State #5 Tethia
    State #6 Themia
    State #7 Palladia, a large and unwrought state, hence named after the Titan Pallas.
    State #8 Euterpeia

    any state has 4 Provinces,
    so the Federation has all in all 32 Provinces
    with the new Capital State of Titania (which consists
    of the City itself and 3 surrounding urban provinces).

    Seas:
    between 4-5-6: Tethian Isthmus

    Just a proposal:
    Sea 1: Villic Sea, named after intestinal villi
    Sea 2: ?
    Sea 3: Proserpinan Sea, after Proserpina, in Greek mythology the cause of seasons (the sea will be frozen during the winter)
    Sea 4: Echan Sea, named after my country (sorry if I'm too egoistic :p)
    Sea 5: Central Sea, it's in the center, or maybe the Janus Sea because it looks like it's facing both the west as the east.
    Sea 6: Normanian Sea, named after Normany
    Sea 7: Aram Sea, after a city lost under a sea of sand

    3.7 Sea should have the name of 17th country name (e.g Norwegian sea)

    well i am against most of your proposals Royb :))). Especially naming seas by country names. Kinda unfair for not chosen countries on the principle so i am vetoing it.

    Oceans ending with "ic", Sea ending "an"

    Susanic Ocean (ref Susanoo, Japan), Thalassic Ocean & Pontic Ocean (Thalassa & Pontos)

    Here are some sea proposals:

    3.1 Between countries 2-5-7 Eygaean Sea (from Aegaeon/ god of sea storms, ally of Titans)
    3.2 Between countries 4-5-6 Tethian Isthmus i like
    3.3 Starting between 1 & 9 till big island of 10 Borean sea or Ranean sea (Ran, nordic godess of sea storms)
    3.4 Between 9-11-10 Nerean sea
    3.5 Between 11-13-15-16 / Sea of Galena (godess of calm sea, for a tropical sea seems good)
    3.6 Between 14-15 Palaemonan sea (Palameon, god protecting sailors)
    3.7 Around 17

    I like the names 'Thallasic' and 'Pontic' for the oceans, but not 'Susanic' since it sounds a bit awkward. :p

    Okay, here's my second proposal:

    2.2 Angustic Ocean, from Angustus, narrow

    3.1 Villic Sea (sorry but there are also seas ending on -ic: Adriatic Sea, Baltic Sea, Celtic Sea)
    3.2 Galan Sea
    3.3 Ranean Sea, but it sounds like rain-ean sea so maybe change it to Ran Sea or Aeolan Sea
    3.4 ...
    3.5 Janus Sea
    3.6 Gulf of Normany
    3.7 Aram Sea

    another idea for names.... a bit more fun... in order to give credit to the greatest modders / builders / XLN contributers of all time!

    Continents:

    Altiria (central) - well without Altiris... i am not sure we would be still here
    Funkocia (left) - Funky did gave us a lot of maps to play on...
    Skulzia (right) - the same for Skulzz...

    Oceans: because each of those modders have flooded us with lots & lots of great mods...

    Montoic Ocean - Monty
    Aitortillic Ocean - Aitortilla01....
    Nickoic Ocean

    :)

    Then for seas... we could have a Miguelian sea & so on...

    Nope I disagree.
    All modders have done exceptional artworks
    that keep us here.
    But I would opine that we would do honour them in a better
    way with building nice cities, using either their maps or their mods.

    Paulian Sea
    Peterian Sea
    Roybic Ocean

    I would say, let's use one set of names for bodies of water and the other for continents. Like Country XL founders for one and mythological names for the other.
