CJ Fosstul

Capitol port city

Fosstul, a planned capitol port city.

This is my first city journal so bear with me. : )
Map used: Moran's Dalian. This is one of the more interesting Chinese ports that have been made into a great CitiesXL map.

An introduction to Fosstul. This initial posting will showcase the planned infrastructure and basic road layout. I really wanted to start a city journal and do plan on making a few estelyon maps and enhanced scenic views. For now, however, just some basic pictures.

A very tentative, soft beginning. I am not set on any certain city-scape. This little bit might change, I could very well delete it and start fresh. Most likely the city will end up with a very mixed bag of design.

    The greater Fosstul area:
I tried to simplify and not fuss over the topography. I used a simple freeway plan with some purposely unique exits. I have not completed the Southwestern branch, as it will be the international airport. I tend to mull over my airport layouts. I do bridge over my railroads, otherwise I get car traffic on them : /
    [IMG]

    The planned areas of Fosstul:
The central area of Fosstul. There will be an old town and modern city center. There will be extensive industrial ports along the bay.

The southern area will be complex and built around the hills and natural shore line. The southern shores will consist mainly of marinas and commercial boating.

The northern area will be a mix of rural areas to the very north, suburban sprawl and mixed urban areas just south of there, and finally into more densely populated areas as you reach the central districts.

The area below the will become a large international airport. I place a pathway to plan out my taxiways and runways. I think I will have two 2800-4000m runways. There will be freeway and local road connections, along with tram, metro and bus routes.

    The planned Old Town:
    Southwestern view
    [IMG]
    An eastern view
    [IMG]

    Freeways and Infrastructure:
The central districts are marked by the sunken Fosstul Freeway. With access roads, expressways, and local-exit lanes for increased traffic. As well, I am from Detroit. If you look up the freeway system you'll find tons of sunken freeways. I wanted to represent my home a bit. : )

The exchange that loops the Fosstul Freeway to Interstate-10.

The spur that connects the secondary Interstate-23 to Interstate-13.

A four level exchange. I tend to only make y-exchanges because they look better in the game. However, I wanted to have at least one larger exchange.

The main access points to the central districts. A better view showing lane divisions for traffic flow. I am not certain if this will equate to better in-game traffic, but it's kinda used in real-life.

Various other exits along the freeway system.

lol.. a bit late, Lord. This is just super old and a completely different version of the game I play now. It's a dead CJ. lol

    4/5,
Hmm, seems there's a couple of troll 1 star ratings on here that I need to balance out. Give the guy a chance, he did say in at the beginning that it WASNT finished...for just a road network, it's very extensive. I like it.

    1/5,
This city needs a whole lot of things to be done
and redone. Some parts of your road layout
are simply unrealistic, furthermore, I so often
have to see pylons of bridges on the roads below,
which can be avoided easily. Then you did care
not even about the slightest terraformation before
    you placed streets there.
I will change my rating once you improved,
maybe have a look at some good old tutorials
by Denco or Discopolis, you can learn a lot there.
Please do not answer, otherwise I will not be able to change my rating...

I am not looking for your approval, Kipate. I most certainly don't need comments that just ick of pretentiousness. I am so sorry I burdened you with my City Journal. I'll make sure to change the things you are tired of 'so often seeing' or the things you believe I was purposely careless about. If I knew you were gonna take offense to the last bridge pylon conversation we had I wouldn't have commented. F-off. Where are your City Journals?

    4/5,
You've got a good framework for your city started. Thanks for posting these early screenshots. I'm still figuring out how to make more realistic interstate interchanges. Your examples here are nice to see and they are helping me on a city I'm rebuilding. Enjoy filling in your city and thanks again!

Thanks! I-exchanges are tricky. Once you get it done, however, an interstate system in this game is so slick looking. I build the exchanges from the outside in. I don't box out squares or try to be exact. I just line up my feeder lanes, get a good area, work from the bottom level up, and draw out on paper the more complex exchanges. I am a Geographer, so constantly looking at real maps might help. : ) But, I am not an expert at building in CitiesXL, I do think I have a good eye for realism.

Thanks. Yeah, sure does need a lot of work. However, this was just a starting point for a true 'journal' if you will. Should be plenty of updates.
