CJ Klaupio

My 1st city in XXL

    • Cities XXL 2015
Hi! This is Klaupio - a city, that I started to create in CXL 2011 and never finished there. After upgrading to XXL, reproducing and finishing Klaupio was my first project. Here it is:

Algus 1.jpg I love those sunrise/sunset pics in CXXL :)

Klaupio is a city in my imaginary land Selioarkesson, the country of Regrana. It's the administrative centre and the largest city in Skertūre - one of Regrana's six districts. With 197000 inhabitants it's the 7th largest city of Regrana. The name Klaupio is inspired by a nice city Kuopio in Finland.

The 6 districts, their capitals and the location of Klaupio

Klaupio has a technical university and it's the IT-centre of Regrana. There is a Pacman square dedicated to computer gaming in Klaupio ;). The city is located relatively north, having 21 hours of sunlight in june and only 3 in december. The average temperature in july is 15-20 degrees Celsius and -10-0 in january. The maximum temperature ever recorded is 29,4 and minimum -30,9.

There is a small airport in Klaupio with regular flights to Dāgren and Jerbīna. The state highway 2 (Dāgren-Klaupio) ends and 5 (Irklava-Klaupio-Piltene) passes through the city. There is a railway connection to south-east (Piltene) and south (Dāgren-Briēnu-Jerbīna). There are 9 bus lines in Klaupio.

I also want to provide you a little information about my country Regrana:

I have had an imaginary area of countries for a long time. The area is called Selioarkesson (Selian area = Selian zone) and it initially had 3 countries (=states): Selia, Yqrkotessandia, Suprossandia. In 2013 I added Regrana as a 4th one and it is now the largest and the most populous country in Selioarkesson.

    Capital: Dāgren
    Largest city: Jerbīna
Official language: The western dialect of Sēlinki (A language that I have constructed since 2003. You could call it Selian language in English)
    Area: 644 000 sq km (245 000 sq mi)
    Population 9 168 000
Pop density 14,2 / sq km (37,5 / sq mi)
GDP 2443 SAS (Selioarkessōnenki sash = The money of Selian zone). Equals to ca 46400 eur / 52700 dollars

Your achievement is fine for now,
Your city must have more charm to get 5 stars

    Three stars!
I do like your highway network a lot,
you really try to have interchanges that are not
    too complicated, looks very nice!
Again, that skyline with just 5 or 6 highrises looks quite neat,
and the choice of highrises was very wise in my opinion!
I do also love your representation of the whole country,
as well as of the city itself!

So, that sounds all positive, but why now only three stars?
Well, the main reason is again (see sour last CJ) that I think that you have nice ideas, but do not execute them properly.
For instance, the airport could be improved a lot, it looks
unrealistic, I have to say (no taxiways there, for example).
Also I wonder why you put some overground highway tunnels there? Even if they should work as noise barriers, they would need to be longer.
Also, I am more a fan of realistic plazas. Your Pacman Square may look quite nice from above, but does it also work as a recreational place for your people?
One last thing was to maybe improve the industrial areas, if possible.

Once again, you do have good ideas, just be patient enough to create in XXL what your mind is imagining ;)

Hi! You pointed out the right things. I'm probably good at building road networks and skylines, but poor at plazas and details.

This was the first time I tried airport pack and really... I have no idea, how to build a proper airport :D. The highway tunnels just appear in my RHM bridges now. And lack of patience is one of my bad sides as well...
