The airport served 66.9 million passengers in 2018, ranked as 18th busiest airport in the world by Airports Council International, and the busiest in Southeast Asia. Although overcapacity, after a survey ACI in 2018 declared that Bidadari International Airport is being operated safely. To reduce congestion and to achieve a target to handle 100 flights/hour, the second runway will be made in August 2021. The airport will be able to serve 100 million passengers annually by 2025 after completion of ongoing development work.
