So, my Dear Fellows, it's now been officially one year since the first data
of the Old Site was transferred to the New XL Nation, hosted by XenFORO.

Many important events happened within that year, and I would want to sum them up
and analyse them in rather humorous way for you. I would also want to thank several people
here. I first thought that it was the best to create two distinct parts of the speech,
one to thank the people, one to review the events. But after a while,
I changed my mind and created the following speech:
There are 3 Parts, but at the end, there will be cake!

So, in the late summer of 2014, the veterans of the old site noticed some
malfunctions for the first time. City Journals that could not be updated,
the site itself being unaccessible more and more frequently, and so on...

Apparently, the founder and only administrator of the old site, Hyperwolf,
hadn't really updated and cleaned the site for months.
Based on the mantra of Madame de Pompadour, "après moi, le déluge",
Hyperwolf seemingly had left the site without telling anyone.
This of course let to some severe problems.
The guy that back then hosted the site's data on his own company's servers,
today's administrator of the new site, IcyHot, also told us that there was nothing
he could do about getting rid of the malfunctions, as he did not have any administration
    rights back then.

It was back when @Monty finally decided to write a first message to several
other people of the site to transfer the data to a new site.
It was finally made up that IcyHot would administrate a new site.

Here, first and foremost, and on behalf of the community, I would like thank @IcyHot , our community's administrator:
he did not hesitate to offer the storing of old XLN's data on his own
company's servers when there was the need for more memory space,
and almost directly agreed when he was asked even increase the amount
of responsibility and administrate the new site!
He's also steadily updated and improved the new site, which has led to New XL Nation
    offering a rather independent network for fans of architecture and city building;
you can upload screenshots directly from your computer, you can write messages to others,
have the possibility to chat with them, and so on...
So without further ado, thank you, IcyHot, for all your effort when it came to migrating,
and for all the passion you put into maintaining the site. There is unfortunaly not much
more I could do, except for loudly intonating a "HEAR HEAR"!!!

Now, the new site was brought up, and it needed to be filled with input,
also known as mods and any other kind of resources and threads
(except for some stupid threads as the Counting Thread ).
But, well, apparently, we needed a little push by IcyHot to really start migrating
such resources and threads to the new site...

More and more old content entered the site, but after some days then, Monty
finally came up with the first new mod for the new site, the Plaza de España Fountain.
Also, @Jan303 released the first new City Journal, the City of Kalman.

Finally, migration was done within the next days, and the new site could be really opened
for the public; it was announced on the old site, and within the next weeks,
more and more people joined the New XL Nation.
I hereby would like to thank all the people who helped migrating the content of the
old site to the new site, especially I would like to thank @Peter912 , @Pamascus27 ,
and @veija2 . Whilst all the boys were still complaining about how annoying migrating the content was, veija2 had already transfered a hundred mods from the old site.
Peter912 and Pamascus27 later also came up with transfering more data.

IcyHot released some upgrades and changes about twice a week back then,
and with lesser frequency some weeks later, and moderators emceed the site,
answered questions and mediated conflicts and arguments, in case that had become
truly necessary. Here, I would like to thank @The Funky Monk , @Alex24 ,
    @snick , @Dreian , and also @KR153 (who had been serving as a moderator
for several months) for taking their jobs their jobs very serious, and also
    for all their precious advice!!!

A little later, the Mod of the Month Competition had finally been reintroduced,
which all in all has lead to the winning modders having gained a lots of groupies,
willing to do anything for mods^^

At the end of October last year, the community was surprised by @facaden 's
    beautiful City Journal of Malbourne.
It quickly became the the best of all journals, and could defend this position
    for several months!!!

The leaves had fallen down, and the first Big City Building Challenge was set up:
The Bootleg River City Building Contest!
People from all around the world start building on that map to win within one of the
14 categories, even people one never had heard of before!
One could see brilliant city concepts, of course, but the most astonishing characteristic
during that challenge was that people supported each other wherever help was needed,
and even made suggestions to improve a given part within another player's city.
Albeit myself not having participated on that challenge, I wanted to thank you guys for that
incredible experience, and apparently, seeing the current challenge, this has been a lasting

With the Bootleg River Challenge still going on, Christmas came close, and all the common members as always hoped for some presents by the modding community, and our prayers
    were fulfilled:
@The Funky Monk made a whole pack of maps, and even @skullz613 and @nicko2u created little gifts for the community!

Of course, shortly afterwards, the year 2015 AC started, and @Monty and @Mr.X² sent some
    more presents :D
On a site note, I still believe that Mr.X² was having a lonely New Year's Eve :D

IcyHot finally decided to move XL Nation to another domain by the beginning of July, 2015. This was reasoned by the fact that the old domain, xlnation.net, was registered only until the end of June, 2015, and IcyHot would have needed the "O.K." by Hyperwolf to either re-register the old domain for another five years or give IcyHot the full control over the old domain.

Also, thanks to all the people who donated money to keep XL Nation running!
It was a bit astonishing that the money goal was reached within just some weeks!

On the 15th of January 2015, @chenchuan published his City Journal of Los Angeles,
and again, people were rubbing their eyes out of disbelief about the excellent quality
of that city. It right now is on a par with facaden's CJ of Malbourne.

January 2015 had ended, and by the beginning of February, we were all surprised by the
comeback of @aitortilla01 , who came with a fantastic addition to his classic of the
German Pack Mod: The Generic Pack I became the highest rated mod within no time,
breaking several records, e.g being the first mod with more than 60 5-stars ratings...
It was as if the whole community fainted out of joy over his comeback :D

On a serious note, I would like to thank all the modders and map makers!!!
Your fantastic high quality artworks are of course the main reason for the activity of XL Nation.
And of course, it is not only aitortilla01 or Monty or someone else whose mods are the reason for the people starting to cry out of delight.
There are many other modders that have often shown their quality. Despite I initially did not want to call any special names, there are two modders I can't refuse to name, and the first is
    @Altiris :
Thank you, Sir, for all your incredible work regarding the User Interface Mod as well as
the Community Mod! And all this of course despite the unwillingness of Focus Home Interactive to give you just the slightest advice or even help on your project!
    You ROCK!!!

The second one to thank was the meanwhile inactive member @pitty .
He had developed the Realistic Highway Mod (RHM), which probably was the greatest success
for CitiesXL a while back. Though he himself has not yet been to the New XLN,
many other modders have refined and enhanced his initial mod, e.g. alvinheriadi
    or Mr.X².

In February, two other important events took place: First, we could vote for our favourite cities regarding the Bootleg River Challenge.
    Second, Cities XXL was released.
    Well, about the latter...
Yeah, I don't really think that I need to analyse this any further, all I can say is that
this new game is indeed heavily polarising, with more people tending to have
a rather negative opinion of this game...

February was in any case one of the months with the highest amount of comments so far,
    especially with reviews on XXL.

March came up, and the Bootleg River Challenge Winners were announced,
Once again, congratulations to chenchuan, @FussionM , and @ovarz , your cities
    were really top notch!!!
The other important event was the release of Cities:Skylines!
This game hit in like a bomb, and eventually renewed the whole genre of city building games
(yeah, you are playing a game when you enter XXL, it is not real life...).
It also lead to a downfall of activity here, one has to acknowledge that.
Here again, I don't really want to further analyse the game, I guess people tend
to have a rather positive opinion of that game, although it has some weaknesses,
e.g. the cartoonish look of the buildings...

The following two months went over without a lot of activity on the forums.
It seemed as if people were all busy playing Skylines, and even more top quality mods
by aitortilla01, Mr.X² or others could not really change that.

At the end of May, the activity slightly started growing again. Some people came back
from playing Skylines, and IcyHot started the Gonaives City Building Contest!
Of course, with the start of the summer holidays, activity slowed down a bit,
as it had been usual even on the old site. In the last weeks and still ongoing,
the Gonaives Challenge has been the most commented topic, and now we are here:

Of course, Cities:Skylines will stay popular, and will have more active players than XXL.
But here I would like to quote one of the loudest supporters of Skylines, a guy from Finland
who is famous for his code changing mods that sometimes work, sometimes don't:
He told me in the Shoutbox (and the moderators can look it up) that he indeed was a bit disappointed in Skylines, it did not really match his expectations, some mods did not work as wished, and that he is planning to go back to XXL.
Yeah, Skylines is still under refinement, and it will evolve even further.
Hence, regarding XL Nation itself, we should also be grateful that CSL modders like
@vipklerri share their work here. And we should maybe more actively invite CSL players
and especially modders to move first to XLN, before having to face the "jungle" of the
Steam Workshop, where every second mod is just a further interchange^^
XLN has many professional modders, and seeing the success of e.g. @KR153 ,
@Ole , @pauliaxz , and @Alex24 within the Skylines Community, our site could
probably also be seen as a place for scholarly exchange (which it already is,
    at least for XXL).

Anyways, today we are celebrating, so Cheers to you all, have fun, and enjoy the mods
that our modders have released or will be releasing today!!!

Thanks also to all the silent vagabonds that only download mods; I have no problem
at all with that, at least you are not burning the site down, and by chance, you do even
spread news about XLN somewhere else such that the site will grow even further!

Thanks also to all the important people that I did not tag within this speech:
I am sorry, I did not have the intention to hurt your feelings; but please take
into consideration that the speech would not have found an ending if I had included
anyone with more than about 30 messages or likes...

And yeah, have a cake :D

Yah we made it a year. I would add a couple of items to the history.

    1. Honorable mention should go to the XLNation user mobilmalik

    2. Monty for putting up with me wanting to change the board theme every few days

    3. The controversy over the proper shoutbox chat sound. (sadly no sound now)

On another note I will be installing version 1.50 of xenFORO soon, some nice feature upgrades.

I'm proud to be a member of this high quality community. Thanks to everyone, specifically to IcyHot, charismatic members as Kipate (can't name everybody, it would be too long) and all the modders. I'm a little sad to see more and more inactive modders (Fayed, Pitty, Supersnake, Playtime, Ole ... another too long list). But Aitortilla came back so there's hope. Happy birthday XL Nation!

Awesome post! Really love this community, wish I had more time to be a part of it. This makes me want to take a third attempt at modding again..the last attempt I was sooooo close to finishing a building and my computer wacked out due to other reasons and I totally lost interest. :( Kipate, you've inspired me to try again. Also I try to be a helpful and encouraging 'vagabond' as you put it. ;)
