Welcome to De Cleerk, a thriving metropolis at the sea called "Leijnenzee" in the east of the "Northern Union Republic". In the Main City are living about 600,000 people, including the Greater Area there are about 1,2 million. The mayor (meanwhile for 23 years) is Jan-Erik Houtman, who brought the city to an international metropolis. De Cleerk has a very important financial sector, the new harbor allows a immense movement of goods, the mayor created many jobs and added lots of cultural and entertaining leisure facilities to make the city a world wide hot spot. Lots of tourists are visiting the city during all year.

A short excerpt of the history
Founded in 1601 by british merchants as a trading base at a popular searoute, the first name of the city was St. Elisabeth, named after the then english queen Tudor. Natives were sold to spanish conquistadors or privateers as slaves and cabin crew. St. Elisabeth was considered a safe haven for the British and a model example of a successful new world until a strong earthquake destroyed the city in 1717. The town was only rubble.
Paul Taylor, citizen, wrote in his diary: "1717-03-24: Day three after the ground tremored, i still see corpses on the streets, lying under big, heavy timbers and destroyed walls, also the sea took people for its watery grave. Houses are still burning, desperation everywhere. The authorities are shocked, no one cares about the destiny of the citizens, it's up to the people themselves to build up the town again and help women and children."
1770 the city was conquered by the dutch, led by Captain Henrjik van Breye and renamed in De Cleerk. The following years were calm, probably because the british empire lost interest in the area due to the rise of other cities in strategically more important locations.

In 1864 first phosphate deposits were discovered in hinterland of the city. The dutch and the british claimed this extremely valuable resource for themselves and triggered the phosphate wars from 1868 - 1870. De Cleerk of course was a very important fulcrum, the infrastructure was badly damaged during war. Since independence of the Northern Union Republic in 1873 the City has been started rebuilding. De Cleerk was officially part of the country in 1898. About the turn of the century the city had about 100,000 inhabitants and was barely industrialized. With opening of the coastal railway line in 1909 De Cleerk started to change from a sleepy seaside town into a bustling metropolis.

We have well exploited these possibilities like the excellent location of the city on major shipping routes, creating ideal conditions for the financial sector and the high attractiveness of the city."

Hoendal and De Vran are the biggest suburbs close to De Cleerk. De Vran is mainly used for residentials of the high society.

The Airport De Cleerk Ruijters opens the gate to the city for about 37,000,000 people a year. Here is also the headquarter of Vasconia Airlines. In the last years the airport has become too small for the rising amount of passengers. The expansion causes some problems (hilly area, industrial and residential occupancy in the closer area).
